Down from Dartmoor *
DownfromDartmoor.jpg
Approximately 24" x 36"

The painting, Homeland refers not only to the spider's web, which I originally photographed in my cousins garden in Exeter, but also to my mother's homeland which is Great Britian.  What I thought was curious is the similar pattern Down from Dartmoor shares with Homeland, and wonder if some sub-conscious force was at work when the paintings were done.

Prickly Pear*
PricklyPear.JPG
18" x 24"

Prickly Pear is one of my favorite paintings.  If one steps back and looks at the painting, the image of the two plants with light playing on and through the foliage is what the viewer focuses on: but, by moving in closer, the abstract qualities of the painting take prominance, and the viewer begins to notice nuances of color and form that are not obvious from a more distant vantage point.  It sometimes feels, when I paint, that am taking a journey through each passage of my painting, stopping here and there to become intimately familiar with each surface I am working on, whether a leaf, a blade of grass, or even the entire sky.
