I was inspired to paint Cobscook Bay when I visited a friend who lives near the park and was
invited to take a walk with her along the rocky shore. The clouds were billowing up into
thunder heads, and as I looked out across the bay, I knew that this scene would soon become a painting. What
particularly captured my interest was the orange seaweed against the blue of the water and sky and also the violet
shadows that were being cast across the rocks. Squeaker
Cove is on Monhegan Island and I, with a handful of other painters, make the trek there once a year. It's about a 20
minutes walk through the Cathedral Woods and as you approack the cove, you begin to hear the crashing of the surf
on the rocks. For me its a place of meditation as well as painting and sketching. I'm not sure which I do more of while there,
but it is a place of great wonder and inspiration.
